Vancouver Opera is the largest opera company in Western Canada and one of British Columbia’s major performing arts organizations. The company maintains its own Vancouver Opera Orchestra, has a notable leadership history (including conductor Richard Bonynge as Artistic Director in the 1970s–1980s), and presents mainstage productions and community/education initiatives at venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
