About

Having made his Broadway debut at the tender age of four, Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya — known by the stage name “Farruquito” — went on to become the most celebrated flamenco dancer of his generation. Hailing from a long line of Romani dancers, musicians, and artists that include his grandfather Farruco (a legend in the world of flamenco), Farruquito’s continuation of the family legacy took a turn following a fatal hit and run and several years in prison. Now, Farruquito struggles to reconcile his past with responsibilities towards his family and community, especially as his son El Moreno works to follow in his footsteps.

Directors Santi Aguado and Reuban Atlas capture the graceful athleticism of flamenco performance while providing a window into the inner world of Farruquito and his family. Revelling in the artistry of music, dance, and Romani culture, Farruquito: A Flamenco Dynasty offers a fascinating dive into family dynamics and the pursuit of greatness.
