About
Ignite your vision, learn from two emerging filmmakers, simple steps about how to transform your story to film.
Want to make your first film but don’t know where to start? The best part about filmmaking is that you don’t have to figure it all out alone. Join local filmmakers Hannah Yang and Shanthini Balasubramanian. Together, they’ll break down the life cycle of a film: from writing your first script and building a team to shooting, post-production, and getting your finished film out into the world.
They’ll share how they each got started, what they learned along the way, and what they wish someone had told them before they made their first films. Bring your questions and leave with a better idea of how to actually make a film of your own.
In this workshop, Hannah and Shanthini will share how they began their filmmaking journeys and break down the practical steps involved in making your first film. Do you need to go to film school? How do you find people to work with in the Lower Mainland? What happens after you write the script, and what do you do with the film once it is finished? They’ll answer these questions while walking through:
● Writing your first script
● Finding collaborators and crewing up
● Pre-production and planning
● Shooting
● Post-production
● Festivals and distribution
This workshop is for anyone with a script, an idea, or simply an interest in making a film but no idea where to begin.
