About
The Weight of Hair begins with a simple question: how can something so familiar suddenly take on new meaning?
Presented by Pickle Underground, this contemporary group exhibition brings together seven women artists working across Ukrainian and Bangladeshi cultural contexts. Through installation, sculpture, photography, textiles and other contemporary art forms, they explore one of our most familiar yet deeply personal materials through stories of memory, identity, culture and belonging.
The exhibition takes place at The Highbrow, Pickle Underground's artist-run studio and exhibition space inside a private apartment. This intimate setting offers a different way to experience contemporary art, inviting visitors to slow down, look closely and discover connections between the works.
The Weight of Hair opens as part of the 2026 New West Cultural Crawl. Visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition at their own pace, join a free curator-led tour, or attend an artist talk to learn more about the artists, the exhibition and the ideas behind it.
Curated by artist and curator Roksolana Uhryniuk, the exhibition is presented by Pickle Underground, an artist-run interdisciplinary studio and cultural initiative based in New Westminster.
