About

Canadian Premiere

In a seaside village where a woman’s worth is measured by her marriage prospects, a reclusive fisherwoman living on the margins (Olivia Colman) commissions a mysterious weaver (Peter Dinklage) to craft her the perfect spouse. He delivers exactly that in Alexander Skarsgård: a handsome, impossibly devoted wicker husband whose arrival sends the village’s rigid social order into delicious chaos, further stirred up by the venomous wife (Elizabeth Debicki) of the town’s tailor.

Come for the horny basket-man, stay for the sly commentary on gender roles. Directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson balance absurd comedy with surprising emotional depth, grounding a fantastical premise in something deeply human. Colman can do no wrong, Skarsgård is pitch perfect as the earnest dream husband, and Dinklage plays the artisan with sly gravitas. Warm, witty, and wildly inventive, Wicker casts a comedic spell and builds to a thoroughly satisfying finale.
