About
Shostakovich's Quintet, popular since its premiere in Moscow in 1941, displays his distinctive blend of tragedy, satire, and political nuance. While retaining harmonic and melodic accessibility, it is a work of vast emotional range and power.
One of the masterworks of the 19th century, the Piano Quintet in A major, Op. 81 by Antonin Dvořák presents an extremely successful fusion of late Romanticism with Dvořák’s nationalism, his original melodies often eliciting the spirit of Czech folk music.
The Academy Chamber Players is comprised of distinguished faculty from the Vancouver Academy of Music (VAM), showcasing their exceptional musicianship and professionalism. Ian Parker, a VAM faculty member and Kay Meek Artistic Advisor, has performed in recitals across Canada, the United States and Europe, and with many orchestras across Canada.
