Join us as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Six String Nation Guitar with a night of music from the Great Canadian Songbook. For this special anniversary performance, we welcome artists Suzie Ungerleider (formerly Oh Susanna), Jimi, Roy Forbes, and Paul Pigat to the Kay Meek.
Built out of more than 70 iconic pieces of Canadian history – from the Golden Spruce on Haida Gwaii to Paul Henderson's hockey stick (yes, that hockey stick!) – the Voyageur guitar has a story to tell. Over the years, Voyageur has been played by hundreds of musicians, including Feist, Stompin' Tom Connors, and Gordon Lightfoot.
Drawing from their own creations, as well as beloved classics from Canada's most revered troubadours, each artist will share stories and songs that explore what it means to be Canadian. An incredible night of story and song, Jowi Taylor, the guitar’s creator and former national CBC Radio host, will be your host for the evening.
Roy Forbes
Roy Forbes is one of Canada’s best-loved songwriters and performing artists, as well as a record producer, film composer, songwriting mentor, radio host at CBC Radio & CKUA, and popular music historian of 78 RPM records. He’s been at it for over fifty years now, with a street named after him in his hometown of Dawson Creek in Northern B.C. and a star on Vancouver’s Granville Street.
Jimi
Jimi’s debut album, What a Feeling, took her from Nashville to L.A. to Singapore stadiums, with her viral performances catching the attention of rock icon Bryan Adams and sparking a co-writing collaboration set to feature in her upcoming releases. An emerging artist unafraid to explore, Jimi has spent her career crafting vintage soul with a modern edge into a genre-defying sound that is entirely her own.
Paul Pigat
A Vancouver local, Paul Pigat has toured extensively in North America, Europe, and Asia as a solo performer, with his band Cousin Harley and as a sideman for numerous international artists — including Jeff Beck and Michael Kaeshammer. His superb talent as a guitarist is matched by his songwriting and vocal abilities; a warm baritone equally at home singing flat-out rockers or laid-back Americana/folk songs.
Jowi Taylor
Jowi is a Toronto-based radio personality, writer, public speaker, and originator of the Six String Nation project. As a radio broadcaster, producer, writer and host, he is best known for CBC Radio's weekly music and news programme, Global Village, which ran from 1997 to 2007. In 2015, he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal by then Governor General David Johnston, for Six String Nation's contribution to Canadian culture.
Suzie Ungerleider
After 23 years away chasing dreams in Toronto, revered singer-songwriter Suzie Ungerleider (formerly Oh Susanna) has returned home to Vancouver. For over two decades, thousands of shows, and ten critically acclaimed albums, Suzie’s gloriously emotive, crystalline voice, her bewitching performances, and her fierce song-writing have consistently captivated audiences. A three-time JUNO nominee, the artist released her latest album, Among the Evergreens, in 2025.
