About
Embodied Clown: Play & Presence
Instructor: Priscilla Costa
WHEN: Sat Sept 19 12-4pm, Sun Sept 20 12-4pm
Overview
This two-day workshop is a playful, hands-on intro to clown and character comedy, focused on getting you out of your head and into the room. We’ll work with presence, audience connection, and simple, doable ideas that land. Expect physical exercises, direct audience play, and short improvs that help you discover what’s funny about you. It’s open to total beginners and experienced performers alike, and you’ll leave with some small, performable bits and a better sense of how to build on them.
Workshop Approach
The training draws from contemporary clown, bouffon, and physical comedy practices. Exercises are designed to move participants out of their heads and into their bodies and voices, encouraging risk, play, and immediacy. Participants will work with direct address, short improvisations, repetition, escalation, and emotional range, while developing an awareness of how to use the breath and the body for playable material and maintaining an audience relationship.
What Participants Will Gain
Increased confidence in performance and self-expression
Experience with direct audience address and interaction
A stronger sense of physical ‘present moment’ presence and vocal range
Practical techniques for developing short clown or character acts
