ZLATNA MOUNTAIN brings together fast dance tunes, soulful ballads, and melodic vocal harmonies in a lively Balkan folk experience. Their repertoire features varied rhythms and time signatures that are beloved by international folk dancers, along with songs shaped by Ottoman and Slavic traditions.

Based in Vancouver, Zlatna Mountain brings together musicians with a shared love of Balkan music and dance. Band members have deepened their knowledge by studying with Macedonian musicians both locally and abroad. Their music draws from Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Albania.

A Zlatna Mountain performance can carry listeners through a shifting landscape: across fog-covered plains and lively village markets, into raucous taverns, dense forests, private gardens, and, of course, the mountains themselves.

BALKANARIA is the only professional group of its type in Canada. They specialize in Bulgarian folk music, rooted in soulful melodies, driving dance rhythms, rich harmony, and improvisation. Balkanaria presents rich and varied repertoire with a contemporary vision: honouring tradition for a modern, global audience.

They play traditional songs and instrumental music for dances, community events, concerts, and festivals, among others. They have performed throughout the Lower Mainland, Victoria, and Seattle, WA, frequently playing with dance ensembles such as Kita and Zornitza. Kosta Bozhinov is the founder, accordionist, and music director of Balkanaria, with drummer/tupan player Gencho Kalaykov and other frequent collaborators.
