About

If you are interested in singing Jewish music and perhaps even joining a choir, the Vancouver Jewish Folk Choir invites you to attend an open house to check us out.

The choir will sing a few songs and then teach an easy Yiddish song for everyone to sing along. Choir members will then answer questions so that participants can get the flavour of the choir, repertoire and what kind of commitment joining the choir involves (such as rehearsal schedule, performances). There will be snacks.

The Vancouver Jewish Folk Choir is an amateur non-audition mid-level choir with a conductor, piano accompanist, and a leader for each section (SATB). The repertoire ranges from traditional Jewish folk songs to more sophisticated cantatas and other longer works, including repertoire for major Jewish holidays. The choir is diverse, inclusive, and very friendly and welcoming. Much of the choir's repertoire is in Yiddish, but we also sing in Hebrew, Ladino and English. All music is in transliteration.
