James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who rose to international prominence in the late 1960s after forming the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He pioneered novel electric-guitar sounds and live performance techniques, headlined landmark festivals such as Monterey Pop and Woodstock, and was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
